The Piano
As more and more concerts were being done at the Meetinghouse
a need for a permanent piano became apparent. In the
late 1990’s money was raised through donations
and an Emerson baby grand piano was purchased for use
in recitals and concerts.
Emerson Piano Company of Boston, Massachusetts, established
in 1849 and produced pianos until 1940.
Emerson pianos are known everywhere by the descriptive
phrase, "The sweet-toned Emerson." Upright,
grand, and player pianos were manufactured. Established
by William Emerson in 1849, it is one of the best known
names in the piano world. William Emerson's idea was "tone," not
tone volume solely but tone characterized by clearness
and sweetness. The immediate demand for his instruments
produced abundant evidence of his success. They soon
became known as the "sweet-toned Emerson." The
Emerson was made in small grands, spinets, being predominently
a piano for the home. It was a product of the Aeolian
American Corporation
The name made several mergers, including ones with
the United Piano Corporation, the American Piano Company
and the Aeolian Piano Company. Besides the Emerson
name, the company also made the Gramer piano.
